'Zat You Santa Claus?

Well, we made it. Somehow. One post for every day since October 1. Not too shabby. Tomorrow is normally when I would start my 'Best of 2017' list but sadly I just haven't had time to get through enough albums yet, so putting together a rush job just wouldn't cut it. I'm going to have to play catch-up instead and go back in time to finish it later. Hopefully I'll find the motivation somehow.

So... with that in mind there won't be any more posts on El Bloggo until January 1. Then, a new challenge. One post a day until.... let's make it to March and see what happens. Until then I leave you with this classic. Nobody does it quite like Louis, but this is a pretty darn good live rendition. Aw heck, we'll post a little bonus beats action at the end too. It is Christmas after all.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Didn't It Rain

Amazing performer who is headed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. This is from 1964 in Manchester, part of the American Folk Blues Festival's UK tour.

Boston Pops - Star Wars Theme

I saw the new movie. It made me a little sad. There was so much they could have done with it that they didn't.... and much they did that they shouldn't have. Without getting into specifics, my interest in the next movie has greatly diminished. I remember Star Wars for the sense of wonder it gave me as a kid in the original trilogy. The new movie just doesn't invoke the same feelings.

Run The Jewels - Call Ticketron

Brand new video. RTJ3 wasn't as good as RTJ2, but it's still high level dope.

Friday, December 15, 2017

Tom Wilson - Shine

One of my personal favorite Canadian songwriters. A classic from his Junkhouse days.

Postmodern Jukebox - Crazy

Haven't been that excited about the covers Mr. Bradlee has been doing in a while but P-Dubs sent me this one today and I have to admit it's pretty good. The clarinet solo by Chloe Feoranzo is a nice touch.

The original, of course, is by Gnarls Barkley. who sadly haven't released a new album in nearly a decade. Yes, this fact is as shocking to me as it is to you. Here I was thinking it had been a few years.... 2008 is now ancient history!

Monobody - Curry Courier Career

Here's eight minutes of awesome to help you forget that it's Wednesday.

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Sean Price - Planet Apes

I feel yesterday's offering wasn't angry enough. I offer this beast to atone.

WARNING: Graphic video ahead. Hide yo kids. Also: earmuffs.

Coheed & Cambria - Wake Up

I was going to post something loud. It is Metal Monday after all. In lieu of monster riffs I've opted for some acoustic Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever. I trust you'll forgive me.

Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice

Throwdown Thursday? Can't go wrong with Norman Cook and a little dance number from Christopher Walken. How does this not have 100 bazillion views?

Monday, December 4, 2017

Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill

Here's one I'm surprised I haven't already posted. He's 61 in this performance. Pretty funny at the end when he almost takes out the conductor with a giant hanging camera.

Sunday, December 3, 2017

Ria Mae - Ooh Love

Heard her on the CBC the other day. Kind of embarrassed to say I didn't recognize her stuff. Color me impressed. This acoustic performance might be even better.

(one extra chilly bonus beet please)

Broken
(feat. Tegan Quin)

#1 Dads - Two Weeks

This is a shockingly good cover that blistering FKA Twigs track. One of my favorite covers over the past couple years.

There's so much to be interested in here... it's ambitious. This is not an easy song to perform and the original is untouchable, but I really like the approach - they've captured the feel of the song while still keeping it fresh. Great job.

Gigamesh - History

French disco house funk supreme. Big fan of Matthew Masurka's stuff. Can't believe I haven't posted more. First got into him when I heard his remix of Mike Posner's "Cooler Than Me". That gives me an idea...

Bonus beats?
